EV chargers

Circitas can install domestic EV chargers of your choice when they are fitted on your own property.

I work with you to provide what you need, located in the most convenient spot to charge your vehicle. I currently fit Podpoint Solo 3, Myenergi ZappiV2.1, Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt

Electric vehicle chargers have a special set of regulations in BS7671 which relate to supply safety and earthing. It's useful that many of the more onerous installation issues existing before ~2020 have gone away with the current mature development of home EV chargers and their inbuilt protective features. This makes installations much simpler than was once the case, but it is still vital that your installer adheres to regulation.

EV charger regulation is covered by the entirety of BS7671, and specifically by a dedicated section 722 of our regulations.

All EV chargers must also meet requirements of "The Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021". - Every mainstream UK manufacturer will meet this. 

The items I will consider before installing your EV charger

• The suitability of your existing electrical supply: You may need to apply for a supply upgrade to cope with the additional demand.
• The general safety, bonding, earthing.
• The suitability of your household consumer unit: There need to be available spare "slots" (with airspace round the breakers), and there needs to be surge protection. I shall also be looking for a fireproof (steel) consumer unit. Potentially we may need to upgrade or add an additional consumer unit. 
• Will the EV charger be located and used indoors or is it intended to be used outdoors.
• Where do you want to site the EV charger, cable routes and cable lengths.
• Is there wifi or network data coverage in the intended location to operate the smart capability of the charger? Some brands require wifi, others require only network data. 
• It will always be necessary to apply to Energy Networks Association ENA for permission to connect your charger. I do this with an application to your DNO (Farnham area this is SSEN), to evaluate the supply into your property. DNO will sometimes need to make a site visit (no charge). This is to ensure the additional loading added can be handled safely by the network and by your house supply cable.
